SNOWSHOEING AT OLE'S
Snowshoeing at Ole’s Cross Country Center blends adventure with comfort. An adventure because Ole’s snowshoe trails follow terrain most skiers will never see. You are welcome to follow 30 miles of ski trails through northern forest and across open, sweeping meadows. Almost 12 miles of trails are left are for snowshoers only. Visit these trails and you can enjoy views of the Green Mountains, Sugarbush Ski Area, tumbling waterfalls, a beaver pond, and many signs of wildlife. There are two easier trails. Both are three miles long. There is one advanced trail six miles long.
Ole’s offers Guided Snowshoe Tours tailored to your interest, ability, and group size. Your guide will reveal the hidden secrets of winter. At the end of the trail is the “comfort part” promised above. The Deli right at Ole’s has homemade soups, sandwiches, hot chocolate, and snacks ready for you to enjoy as you relax in our day lounge.
Ole’s features Tubb’s modern snowshoe rentals. All you need to bring is a pair of hiking boots.
Winter Wildlife - And now a word about some of our friends who live in the winter woods:
Wildlife residents active during winter days include deer, turkey, the colorful pileated woodpecker, red squirrel, grouse and, of course, the hardy, cheerful chickadee. A moose is a possibility. If you are lucky you will spot a snowy owl, but you are more likely to notice a barred owl staring back at you during the warmer days in March. Nighttime is the right time for coyote, rabbit, snowshoe hare, red fox, fisher, and even bobcat. Look closely for their tracks, which tell last night’s stories.
